Learning Target 74:  I can solve quadratic equations using the quadratic formula.

Agenda:

  1. Do Now:  Consider the quadratic function y = x² – 4x + 3.
    a.  Find the discriminant.
    b.  How many zeros does this quadratic function have?
    c.  Find the zeros using your graphing calculator.
    d.  Solve the quadratic equation using factoring (show all your thinking).
  2. Notes:  Algebra Nation Section 5 Topic 9 (p. 148) – Quadratic Formula.
  3. Class Work:  “Try It!” and “Beat the Test!” (p. 149).
    IAN p. 205Quadratic Formula Find the Error. (We’ll save this for tomorrow due to the half-day today.)
  4.  Homework – Quadratic Formula Memorization Assignment (due Wednesday 6/6/18).

Learning Target 73:  I can determine the number of solutions of a quadratic equation using the discriminant.

Hours 5 and 6:

Nobody completed the prerequisites for Quiz 27 today.  Therefore, Quiz 27 is a 0% in the gradebook for everyone.

►In order to take Quiz 27 and change the 0% in the grade book, you must complete all the prerequisites, then take the quiz in records room or during lunch.

►No homework – work on your Quiz 27 and Quiz 26 prerequisites during your homework time this evening.

Quiz 27 Prerequisites:

  1.  IAN pp. 203-204.
  2.  Khan Academy Number of solutions of quadratic equations (with a passing score).
  3.  Khan Academy Quadratics by taking square roots intro (with a passing score).

►There was no class today.

►Quiz 27 will be combined with Quiz 28

  2.  Notes (IAN p. 202) – using the discriminant to find the number of solutions.
  3.  Class Work:  Khan Academy Number of solutions of quadratic equations.

No homework – use homework time to get your make-up work done so you can take last week’s Quiz 26 (see Wednesday’s post).

  1.  Do Now is Algebra Nation Section 5 Topic 6 (page 143).
  2.  Class Work is:
    ►Beat the Test (A.N. Page 144);
    ►Khan Academy Quadratics by taking square roots intro; and

  3. When finished with the above, work on missing assignments/quiz readiness (see yesterday’s agenda).

TURN IN YOUR ALGEBRA NATION BOOKS AT THE END OF THE HOUR.  I WILL GRADE SECTION 6 TOPIC 1, SECTION 6 TOPIC 5, SECTION 5 TOPIC 6.
